Slade and Shanna Joines purchased A-1 from Darren Knoll. Prior to the purchase, Slade worked with Darren for over 10 years, carrying on the tradition of top-quality customer service, and unmatched skill and expertise. Between Slade and Shanna, they have six children, and two grandchildren, who are oftentimes seen assisting with odd jobs around the shop, picking up parts, or entertaining the staff with their antics and pranks. As new business owners, Slade and Shanna have become involved with BNI (Business Networking International), and agree that, so far, the greatest part of owning A-1 is the opportunity to become even more involved in their community.
A-1 Staff includes two service technicians, three installers, and an office manager, in addition to the owners. Some of them were employed with A-1 previously, and carry on the same quality and values their customers have come to know and expect.

The Beginning
Bill Hart & Phil Sheets
Bill Hart and Phil Sheets started A-1 in 1969 as a service only company. Don Smith was working for them doing the service work. After about 6 months, Don Smith decided he wanted to be out on his own, and he purchased A-1 from Bill and Phil.
Don Smith
Don started out doing service work for most of the larger companies in town. He started as a one man shop, but it didn’t take him long to realize that he could not do it by himself, so he started hiring service technicians. He was originally located at 815 16th Ave until 1986 when he purchased the present day building at 107 N. 23rd Avenue. Don worked hard and grew the business for 25 years.
Darren Knoll
In 1995, Don decided it was time to start a new adventure, so he sold the business to Darren Knoll. Darren continued running the business with the same principles that Don Smith had established, where customer service is #1. Don always told Darren if you take care of your customers, they will take care of you.
